Buy WISEly

Buy WISEly overall aims at enabling work integration social enterprises (WISEs) and mainstream businesses (MBs) in involved countries to design, foster and implement transactional partnerships, including trade relationships, for sustainable buy social B2B market to respond to the several identified needs and address current shortages of the labour market by using a holistic approach.

The specific objectives are:

  • To raise awareness on added values of “buy social” B2B markets as well as of WISEs towards MBs
  • To encourage the involvement of MBs to support up/re-skilling pathways of disadvantaged groups to facilitate their access into the ordinary labour market
  • To strengthen the operational and financial capacity of WISEs to cooperate with MBs, the so-called “trade readiness”
  • To develop transactional partnerships through concrete actions between WISEs and MBs. Numerous activities are foreseen consisting of collection of good practices, capacity-building and awareness raising, engagement actions and strong exchanges between representatives of WISEs and MBs, sustainability and scalability actions to foster the long-term impact of the project outcomes as well as communication and dissemination.

The consortium is composed of ENSIE from Belgium (coordinator), arbeit plus (Austria), de omslag (The Netherlands), Consorzio Sociale Abele Lavoro (Italy), ISEN (Ireland), Wirtschaftskammer Österreich (Austria) and MKB Amsterdam (The Netherlands).

RISE Romania, Social Entrepreneurship Association of Latvia, Transistor (Italy) and Dublin City Council (Ireland) are associated partners of the project. 

The project started in June 2023 and will last until November 2024.

Booklet of successful B2B partnerships

The Booklet of successful B2B partnerships provides an overview of good practices of transactional partnerships already in place between Work Integration Social Enterprises (WISEs), and Mainstream Businesses (MBs). In addition to the participating countries Austria, the Netherlands, Italy and Ireland, it encompasses good practices from France, Spain, and Romania. All 19 good practices were selected in the light of ensuring upscaling potential and include a description and indicate elements leading to the successful partnership.

Report on survey on MBs knowledge of WISEs and the social purchasing policies

This report presents the results of a survey sent to both WISEs and MBs in Austria, Ireland, Italy and the Netherlands. It outlines the current knowledge of MBs (including their representation and networks) about buying social in general and from WISEs, their ongoing social purchasing policies and the percentage of B2B revenues of WISEs. The insights of this report serve as a preliminary contextual assessment and is strategically as it will allow to measure the project impact later on. It provides valuable input for subsequent study visits and focus groups, as part of the three-phase work package on awareness and capacity building.

Study Visits

Study visits took place in one session per country (Austria, Ireland, Italy and the Netherlands), and were attended by a minimum of 10 MBs in each of them. The results are stated in the relevant language of each country, and gathered in this report. Study visits are used in BuyWISEly projects as a natural step in the build-up of strengthened relations between WISEs and MBs, offering the opportunity to showcase the kind of business developed by WISEs, their working methods, processes and governance structure as well as delivered goods and services.

Focus Groups

The focus group sessions are conceived as a complementary activity to the assessment obtained through D3.1 surveys, providing the opportunity to hear from target groups and obtain more contextual information, identify concerns, approaches to challenges and barriers. On total, two sessions of focus groups were held in each target country (Austria, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands) with minimum 10 participants in each group. A first focus group session gathered WISEs on national level to enquire about the main challenges and needs to build capacity on key elements for trade readiness of WISEs. A second focus group session was organized to promote exchanges between MBs and WISEs, with participants being asked to discuss the needs and challenges of MBs in starting, implementing and then consolidating a partnership with WISEs on varied domains.

Exploitation Plan

The Exploitation Plan comprises a set of activities designed to ensure long-term sustainability and scalability of the project results, and to enable interested stakeholders to make sense of the use and utility of BuyWISEly results. This plan describes the strategic actions that the BuyWISEly partners will undertake to capitalise the knowledge acquired and the results achieved thanks to this project. The applicability of the Exploitation Plan is not limited to the consortium, as it can provide interested WISEs and MBs from different countries with a set of guidelines on how to capitalise their learnings and achieved results in the long term.

Guidelines on Coaching and Mentoring

The key aim of Guideline for coaching & mentoring for up/re-skilling of disadvantaged workers is to provide an overview of the incorporation of inclusive job placement for disadvantaged workers in Mainstream Businesses. It was also designed to increase the understanding of such actors about job orientation and mentoring typically implemented by WISEs, as well as important positive outcomes obtained from the cooperation and exchange between WISEs and MBs.

Policy Recommendations

The general aim of this document is to provide recommendations to enable the uptake of B2B practices among Work Integration Social Enterprises (WISEs) and Mainstream Businesses (MBs) towards increased gains on both sides, as well as extended benefits to the community. This document was composed with basis on the main results of BuyWISEly project and key EU texts framing WISEs, social purchase and social economy. The recommendations are mainly targeted to policymakers at local, regional, national and EU levels as key enablers to more social B2B opportunities and increased interest by new stakeholders for this type of partnership.

Partnering up for increased social impact: WISEs and mainstream businesses together - Final Conference

The final conference will highlight the BuyWISEly project's achievements in promoting partnerships oriented to buy social with Work Integration Social Enterprises, presenting an overview on B2B partnerships with Mainstream Businesses engagement and shared value creation. Key discussions will cover the means towards partnership build-up based on existing practices, and the way forward in advancing B2B that gathers increased social impact towards mutual gains among parts. The conference comprises a study visit in WISEs in the Brussels region.

BuyWISEly first scale-up event!

This summer, BuyWISEly project reached to WISEs and MBs representatives in Romania and Latvia! In the occasion, the experiences and current results from BuyWISEly will be shared with the relevant audience, seeking to promote practices and obtain feedback that can support the further adoption of project resources. The first scale-up event is organized in assocaition to BUYSOCIAL project, and must take place in Iasi - Romania, the 30th of July. Stay tuned to follow-up on outcomes!

First project meeting!

On 28 November 2023, partners of the Buy WISEly project gathered for their first project meeting. The first steps needed to complete the project's deliverable were addressed. During the meeting, the deliverables D.2.1 (Booklet) and the D.3.1 (Survey) were launched, and a first outreach strategy of those two deliverables was planned.

Kick-off meeting

On the 6th of July 2023, partners of the Buy WISEly project met online for the kick-off meeting. Tasks leaders explained the Work Packages tasks and deliverables to the rest of the consortium.
